A MESSAGE FROM OUR SCA CO-PRESIDENTS

Dear Glenwood Landing Families,

We hope you all had a restful winter break! Spring is right around the corner and we have some important updates and exciting things planned for March.

UPDATES

Project MOVE, a performing arts program funded by the SCA, was enjoyed by K-5 students at GWL in January and February. The program culminated with a 5th grade performance on March 1st.
On Saturday, February 24th, we hosted our 3rd annual Family Skate Day! As a big thank you to our school community, admission, skate rental, and refreshments were complimentary for all GWL families.
On March 20th, the SCA will be bringing another amazing author to GWL - Stacy McAnulty! Stacy is a former mechanical engineer turned award-winning children's book author.
On Thursday, March 7th (1/2 day for Parent Teacher Conferences), the SCA will be providing a special breakfast for the GWL teachers and staff. Special thank you to The Bendrihem Family of East Norwich Bagels for donating the delicious bagels and accoutrements for the breakfast.

REMINDERS

Please join us for our next SCA member meeting on Tuesday, March 12th at 9:00am in the GWL Auditorium. This is a very important opportunity hear about the budget and share your thoughts with Superintendent Dr. Zublionis. All are welcome to attend!
We have created the first-ever Glenwood Landing SCA $1,000 Merit Scholarship for a current North Shore High School graduating senior who attended and graduated from Glenwood Landing Elementary School. The student may write an essay or create a project describing a memory or experience they had at GWL that has shaped who they are today. If you have or know a graduating North Shore High School Senior, please tell them to contact the High School Guidance office for an application.

SCA MEMBER MEETING | March 12, 2024, 9:00 AM

Please join us for our March Member Meeting on Tuesday, March 12th at 9am in the GWL Auditorium. Dr. Z will be joining to discuss the 2024-2025 budget! We hope to see you all there!

Attention 3rd and 4th graders at GWL! Get ready to twist and shout at the SCA's Special Person Sock Hop Dance! We are transporting you back to the 1950s, so slick back your hair, don your poodle skirts and leather jackets as we bring you back to jukeboxes, soda shops and a whole lot of jitterbugging. It is going to be a blast from the past you won't want to miss!

Tickets go on sale on March 4, 2024 at 7:00 pm. The dance will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2024, in the GWL gymnasium. We are limited to 60 students plus their 1 Special Person (must be an adult). Refreshments will be served.

The link for tickets is provided below. Please select 1 slot for your child and include their name and grade in the comment section. Payment for tickets should be sent through Venmo to @GWL-SCA. Please indicate “Sock Hop” when purchasing. Tickets are $15/person. A total of $30 should be sent for the student and Special Person. Payment is due by March 15th.

FROM THE DISTRICT: GIVE YOUR INPUT!

From the Administration:

Our middle school, high school, and elementary parents will have the opportunity to weigh in on discussions regarding the district's future budget priorities on the following dates below in March:

Middle School Parents, Wednesday, 3/6, Virtual Meeting, 7 PM (topics: Middle School Electives, Extracurriculars & Clubs, Class sizes, Athletics & Arts)
High School Parents, Monday, 3/11, HS Cafeteria, 7 PM (topics: HS School Program (AP/IB), HS Athletics & Arts)
Elementary Parents, Monday, 3/25, Virtual Meeting, 7 PM (topics: Elementary Class sizes, World languages, UPK, Athletics & Arts)

As Dr. Z has discussed, our community faces difficult circumstances and choices. Participation is necessary to help determine the future of our programs and schools. Questions can be asked and will be answered. Dr. Z will send out the links to the virtual meetings prior to each, so check your email for updates!

If you ordered autographed books, they will be delivered to your child's classroom on or after the day of the author visit. Thank you!
