School Volunteer Positions

Party held every three years; it is the Schofield PTO’s largest fundraising event.  (Next party: Spring 2025) 

After-school Enrichment Coordinator

Coordinates with the Wellesley Recreation Department to plan semester-long after-school enrichment classes that take place at Schofield, and communicate offerings to school community. 

Backpack Raffle

A program to raise money for PTO through raffling staff led events for student winners such as after school sports games or an ice cream social.

A before school program to give kids a body and brain boost through exercise, games and activities. Volunteers help coordinate and lead morning sessions two mornings a week for about 6-8 weeks.  

Tuesday morning before school, grades 3-5 gather to engage in chess.  Volunteers needed to distribute boards, mats and assist with games.  

Community Service

Works with Principal and staff on school-wide Community Service program(s). Extent and involvement varies from year to year depending on program and needs. 

Creative Arts and Sciences Grade Level Representatives

Coordinates enrichment programs at both the grade level and school-wide. Contacts artists, musicians, scientists etc., works with the principal, teachers and, where needed, parent volunteers.  

Family Science Night

Help coordinate family science night through working with event provider and managing registration and set up of event.

Fifth Grade Fundraising and Activities

Multiple committees coordinate 5th grade fundraising efforts which support: a yearbook, DVD and special field trip for 5 th grade students. Committees also supports service project and other 5th grade activities. 

Coordination of social and fun events to raise funds for PTO from participating businesses/restaurants/gyms that give a percentage of profits back to PTO on a given day based on parent participation.   

Gardening Group

Group meets routinely to help with gardening around the outside of the school and in the courtyard - including seasonal planting in the planters and raised beds, weeding, garden bed clean ups and mulching.  Time commitment is flexible depending on time of year and projects.  No prior experience needed.  

Supports green initiatives at Schofield, such as lunchtime recycling and food repurposing programs.  

Yearly collection and publication of student’s creative artwork and writing, published late spring.  Involves graphic design, editing and layout.   Contact: Joelle Reidy

Lost and Found

Oversees Schofield's Lost and Found area. Returns labeled items to students, periodically organizes and displays items for retrieval and delivers unclaimed items to a charitable organization.  

Math Games Night

A family night of math games and puzzles for grades K-2. Coordinates and collects games and puzzles as well as volunteers as needed. 

Photo Directory

Organize and prepare school student photo book using all class photos, distributed in the fall-winter. 

Reader Board Coordinator

Post important dates, events and information on the School/PTO reader board.  

A non-competitive recess activity, every Tues/Fri am recess where children walk, run or skip around the field. Volunteers help log progress and distribute awards.  Sign-up to volunteer here!  

Our biggest annual event and main fundraiser (first Sunday in June). Organizational volunteer opportunities: Fun Fair planning, obtaining family/corporate sponsorships, 5K and Fun Run race planning, t-shirt design/printing, registration. Room Parent Coordinator

Primary communication liaison between Room Parents and School Administration/staff/PTO. In early summer, coordinates and assigns parent volunteers for each classroom. In September, leads an informational session to review room parent responsibility. Throughout the year, forwards all communication (primarily e-mail) to all Room Parents for distribution and provides updates at PTO meetings. 

Room Parents

Facilitate communication between teachers and parents, coordinate classroom events and volunteers, provide input to Principal and PTO on classroom issues and concerns, (2-3 per classroom/year).

A program within Schofield for the purpose of families helping Schofield families in times of need. Work with school Social Worker. For more information please email SchofieldCares@gmail.com. 

The purpose of the SSC shall be to serve as the central advisory of the school. The goal of shared decision making is to create a climate in the school where the faculty, parents, administration, and other community participants working together share the responsibility and accountability for school  improvement, better student performance, increased satisfaction among professional educators, greater involvement by and with parents, and stronger support from the community at large.  Meets monthly during after-school hours.   School Site Council Website  

School Directory

Manages project by reviewing and updating data files for directory, some data input. In the fall, arranges for printing and distribution.  

A resale shop selling new and gently used clothing to members of our local community, and one of our biggest fundraisers throughout the year. Open Wednesday mornings and certain Saturdays. Jobs include: staffing the shop, tagging, organizing stock, scheduling and publicity.  Sign-up to volunteer here!  

Social Committee

Coordinates and staffs school wide events throughout the year including: the back-to-school picnic, bingo for books, the winter dance, and movie night.  

Social Media, Weekly Update & PTO Website Manager

Posts important dates, reminders, updates and information on the Schofield PTO Facebook page and PTO Website.  

Staff Appreciation Committee

Coordinates monthly events/gifts/food for the staff, organizes an annual on-site luncheon. 

Publicize and organize Schofield's participation in the Box Tops fundraising program, collect and submit Box Tops.  Coordinate participation in online rewards programs: Amazon, Shutterfly, Stop & Shop and www.btfe.com  

Volunteer Coordinator

Recruits and connects prospective volunteers to committee chairs, helps staff committee chairs, recruits and organizes volunteers for Day of Imagineering, Road Race and Fun Fair.

Wellesley Parade

Coordinates Schofield's participation in the annual Wellesley Wonderful Weekend parade in May.  

Yearbook

Representatives from each grade (K-4) collect and organize photos for the yearbook. Coordinate process with 5th grade yearbook committee.  

Town-wide Positions

Committee 21

Primary contact to Committee for Education in the 21st Century. Coordinates communication and volunteer efforts to town advocacy group, as needed.

Serves on a town-wide committee, arranges Wellesley host families for each Schofield METCO student, to form a bridge between the Wellesley and Boston communities..  

Liaison between town-wide PAC (Parent Advisory Committee) and Schofield, and provides parental support group for children on IEP and 504 plans  

Serves on a town-wide committee and facilitates communication between POPS (Parent of Performing Arts Students) and Schofield, focusing on orchestra and band.  

Publicity

Distributes Schofield updates and announcements to local new agencies.  

UNICEF

At Halloween, coordinates UNICEF collection effort at Schofield as part of a district-wide program.  

Work with town-wide committee to plan an evening of sharing and celebrating the different cultures in our Wellesley school community.
